Social Responsibility » The importance of getting involved
Dold and Stone have 176 years of positive relationship with the local Grahamstown community and they regularly act for the benefit of Grahamstown society by making donations to charities in both cash and kind.
A sense of loyalty to the Eastern Cape and a feeling of reciprocal balance between the economy and the overwhelming need in this poor community drive the Dold and Stone Social Responsibility Program. In the recent past the firm has made donations to the Grahamstown Hospice Golf Day, the SPCA (both the Grahamstown and Port Alfred branches), the Feral Cat Society and they have donated warm clothing to the Pam Golding Winter Charity Drive. Organizations wishing to contact Dold and Stone to request donations are requested to email yolandi@doldandstone.co.za. The Grahamstown and Sunshine Coast Hospice The non-profit organization Grahamstown Hospice (www.grahamstownhospice.org.za) was started in 1984 to “enhance quality of life, dignity in death and support in bereavement to all living with life threatening illnesses.” as well as to care for more than 600 patients a year. Dold and Stone are proud to be associated with the compassionate and dedicated Hospice staff and the annual Golf Day which generates much-needed funds for the palliative care offered to the Hospice patients.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
The SPCA is dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals through education, pro-active and reactive measures, and law enforcement. They also maintain a gallery of animals awaiting adoption into their “forever homes”.
Animal anti-cruelty projects are close to the hearts of the Dold and Stone employees and they honour the staff and volunteers at the SPCA.
The Grahamstown Feral Cat Project
This project promotes responsible pet ownership by trapping, sterilizing and re-homing feral cats and their kittens. The wonderful women who run this initiative often also vaccinate and treat the feral cats for diseases as well as supplying pregnant and nursing queens with food. Dold and Stone thank theses volunteers for their efforts and are proud to be part of the solution to Grahamstown feral cat colonies.
Pam Golding Winter Charity Drive
Pam Golding Properties Grahamstown Office collects warm blankets, winter clothing and food which they donate to families in need in the disadvantaged communities. Dold and Stone donate to this worthy cause each winter.
